| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Peterhead 3 Ross County 3 Ross County put up a splendid show at Peterhead on Saturday and no one could grudge them their one point. In fact, almost in the closing minutes, Cameron was unfortunate when he spooned the ball over from close in. The team underwent radical changes from the previous week. Urquhart partnered Munro at back, while Pole came into the half-line with Broadfoot and Macleod (Strathpeffer), the latter two being newcomers to the forward line. Ross County started off with a bang, Macleod netting in the first five minutes. Peterhead, however, did not lie down and soon equalised, half-time finding them in the lead by three goals to one, a point accruing from a doubtful penalty. Peterhead were worthy of their first-half lead. They kept the County on the run continually, and only admirable defensive work by Scott, Urquhart and Ramage kept the score down. The second half, however, found the Highlanders putting up a determined struggle. Ramage struck first-class form, while Broadfoot’s change to the half-line stiffened up the defence, and the forwards were soon hammering at the Peterhead defences. Cowie had a splendid goal, while Cameron scrapped through another to draw the game. From goals out, Ross County was a success. Pole did not hit it off too well to start with, but soon settled down. Scott was brilliant and made no mistakes. With Urquhart beside him, Munro gained his old confidence and after a shaky start, kicked and tackled well. Urquhart played a splendid game. His anticipation was marvellous, while his tackling and forceful play was of great assistance both to his half-backs and forwards. Ramage is to be congratulated on his fine show. Defending with determination and courage, he fought back strongly when Peterhead were on the ascension, and pushed any advantage gained to the bitter end. Trail is tireless. A full ninety minutes player, he has little to learn of the football art, and goes wholeheartedly into the game. All the forwards pulled their weight. Macleod (Strathpeffer) is a decided acquisition, while Broadfoot is the ‘find’ of the season. A medical student, it is probable that Broadfoot will be in the district for some time. He is of splendid build, and has had football experience with both Hearts and Airdrie. All over, the team needs little or no change, and it will be indeed a smart eleven who succeed in taking two points away from Dingwall. |
