Ross County 1 Inverness Citadel 6

Ross County, for the second week in succession, suffered an overwhelming defeat. Citadel returned a six-to-one victory against them at Dingwall on Saturday, while the previous week they went down at Elgin by seven goals to nil.
The Citadel match was anything but a good game. Citadel are flattered by their large win. Both teams, as far as football was concerned, were on a level. Citadel, however, took their chances and the County could not push home any advantage which came their way. Four, at least, of the Citadel goals came off Grant, the County left-back, and this was where the difference in the sides lay.
Urquhart and Ramage were both absentees. Had Ramage been there, especially in the first half, County would undoubtedly have forced home the slight advantage they had against a pair of backs woefully off form. As it was, Citadel crossed over with a one-goal lead, this point being the first of Grant's mistakes.
Citadel brightened up in the second half, and both Brindal and Munro, their backs, shook off their waywardness and took a better grip upon the County attack. Citadel were not long in adding to their score. Grant, when harassed by Whyte, walked the ball into his own goal in an endeavour to clear. This point had an unsettling effect on County, and although having occasional periods of attack, it seemed as if they were afraid of their own defence and the thrust required did not go into their forward efforts. Another misunderstanding on the left defence let Henderson through to score Citadel's third goal. With this comfortable lead, the visitors grew confident and played better football. Henderson secured the fourth goal before Trail converted a penalty for the County. R. Macleod, playing at left-half in the home side, was outstanding at this period, and to him goes the credit for the ineffectiveness of Logie, the elusive and supremely clever Citadel right-winger, who is famous for his wily football and goal-getting abilities. Citadel’s fifth goal came from Patterson, who netted after Scott had made two valiant clearances, while Grant again was responsible for their sixth point.
As a whole, the County eleven did not enhance their reputation. R. Macleod, Invergordon, who previously on occasion turned out as a forward, was a decided hit on the half-line. His play was the one bright spot from the County spectators’ point of view. Ross, outside-left, had also some fine wing runs, and once he gains confidence in beating a man, he should be the ideal winger. Scott is again blameless. It must have been galling to him to have so many goals put past him by his own side, but he never despaired and was always ready when called upon. It is a strong point in Scott's favour that no matter how often he is beaten, it in no way affects his play. Roddie Munro’s return to his old form was another pleasing feature. Munro was kicking cleaner and getting far better length than he has been doing in recent games. Trail played hard at centre-half, as did Aird and Mackay in the forward line, but the weakness at left-back upset the smooth running of the team as a whole, and, minus Ramage, County lost their penetrative power.
