Ross County 2 Inverness Thistle 3

This league match took place at Victoria Park, Dingwall, on Saturday. It was the first time the teams had met since County joined the league, and a large and interested crowd of spectators witnessed the game. Unfortunately, Pirie could not turn out, and this meant a rearrangement of the Ross County side, which did not lead to strength.
The game was evenly fought from first to last, and it was only in the final ten minutes that Thistle showed superiority and worthily won by 3 goals to 2. Early on, Ross County were awarded a penalty which Traill converted, and shortly after Mackenzie added a second from a perfect cross by Morrison. At this stage, the Thistle were unlucky to be two goals down. They did not lie down, however.
Within a minute of the County’s second goal, Mackenzie had reduced the leeway, and just before half-time, Ross secured the equaliser. In the second half, Young gave away a penalty, but Campbell stopped Mackenzie's shot with his head. Thistle, however, were not to be denied, and when Smith beat Campbell, they were worthy of their lead.
The game was a poor one throughout, but the better team won. Campbell, for Ross County, was worth his place in goal.
He was in no way to blame for the goals scored against him. Munro was the more reliable back, Johnstone having a hard task to keep Mackenzie in hand. The halves gave the poorest exhibition of the season, and only Morrison and D. Mackenzie were of any value in the front line.
Morrison improves with every match. There is no better outside right in the Highland League today. The Thistle's outside right, Mackenzie, was also their best man. Their halves were better than the County’s, and that won them the match. Ross County missed Pirie.
