| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Ross County 2 Keith 0 After meeting Citadel at Inverness on Saturday afternoon, when they were defeated by two goals to nil, Keith visited Dingwall and met Ross County in a league game, in pleasant weather and before a large crowd of spectators. Ross County were just able to snatch two points, which they sorely needed if they are not to be wooden spoonists. Ross County were in a relentless mood in the first half, but did not maintain that form later on, and the visitors might easily have divided the spoils in one of their breakaways. Ross County deserved their victory and throughout the game were the more consistent and clever side. The forwards flung the ball about with a freedom which at times perplexed the Keith defence, yet at the interval County led only by a goal, scored by Grant from a penalty, a fair if somewhat harsh decree. This did not represent the run of the play and but for brilliant goalkeeping by Thom, the County would have held a much more substantial lead. After the interval, play slowed up, the visitors especially showing signs of tiring. Ross County, unable to strengthen their slender lead, had a narrow escape when just before the finish Keith were awarded a penalty kick which was not converted. On the whole, the County attacks were not rounded off in the usual fashion. In the absence of Pirie, Grant filled the role of pivot and did quite well. Kerr never got into his stride, but Bowie and Cameron made a good left wing. Both sets of half-backs were constructive and aggressive. All the backs were sound, particularly the Keith two. In Urquhart, Ross County have picked up a fine defender, who promises to work well with Munro. The hero of the side was Thom in the Keith goal. |
