Dunfermline Athletic 1 Ross County 2

Goals from Jamie Lindsay and Richard Chin send the Staggies into the last eight of the League Cup against their Championship hosts.
Ross County stunned Championship hosts Dunfermline Athletic as a 2-1 win earned the League One side a place in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-finals.
Jamie Lindsay headed County to victory in the second half in a tie in which the Highlanders had carved open the best opportunities.
Midfielder Allan Oyirwoth, who had come off the bench for his debut after moving on loan from MSL side New England Revolution, equalised to set up a nail-biting finale.
With both teams going for it, County netted their second when substitute Richard Chin lashed home the volleyed winner.
They will now be in Sunday afternoon’s draw for the quarter-finals.
County, League Cup winners in 2016, last reached the last eight just three years ago when Aberdeen won 2-1 in Dingwall.
Delighted County manager Stuart Kettlewell explained why the performance impressed him as much as the result.
He said: “Over the piece, we were the better side, but that’s not to say we didn’t have to weather a bit of a storm.
“We had to show incredible character. When you come here and get your noses in front and then you’re pegged back, the crowd’s tails are up. Dunfermline were at that point playing better.
“We had to dig deep into our reserves during that period of the game. We had the character, but also the bit of quality with the winning goal from Richard Chin.
“All in all, to come here and get into the next round of the cup makes it a good day for us.
“Today, we showed two sides to what you need to be successful in this country. You need to be able to play well, to have footballers who can handle the ball, but there are times when you’re taken into the trenches. We did that for a spell and that bit pleases me as much as anything else.”
Kettlewell, who always believed his team would have enough to come through this even after missing early chances, said he’s not planning to tune in for the draw.
He added: “I won’t follow what happens (with the draw). I’ve always been the same.
“All I wanted to do is come here and get into the hat for the next round. What happens after that, I can’t control. What the players could control was their performance and they got their deserved victory today. We did that exceptionally well.
And, of his match-winner, the boss added: “Richard has had a really good pre-season and has been unfortunate not to start the last two (league) games.
“We felt that all the wide and creative players operate at a good level. It’s good for me that we’re able to pick and choose what you feel is right for certain players in certain games.
“You can see by Richard’s body language. He is not sulking or feeling sorry for himself because he’s not starting. He believes he’s going to come on and win it for us.”
County, who were relegated from the Championship in May, have kicked off their League One campaign with narrow wins over Peterhead and Montrose so far.
Neil Lennon’s Pars, who beat top-flight St Mirren to reach the knock-out stages, were Scottish Cup runners-up last season defeated Hibs, Aberdeen and Falkirk on the way to Hampden, but this time they felt the anguish.
After making 10 changes for Tuesday’s 2-1 KDM Evolution Trophy win at Elgin City, Kettlewell made just one change from the team which beat Montrose 2-1 last week, with Connor Randall replacing suspended Dylan Smith at right-back.
Defender Dylan Lobban, who joined the Pars on loan from Aberdeen on Friday night, was on the bench and came on in the second half after County took the lead, while Aston Oxborough started in goal for the hosts as ex-Inverness number one Musa Dibaga dropped to the bench.
An early opportunity fell the way of County captain Brian Graham when he met a cross from Lewis Reid, who knocked a Lewis Strapp free-kick into his path, but Oxborough was equal to it.
And the Pars keeper clawed away another Graham effort moments later, this time from a Luke McCarvel cut-back.
And, from another free-kick at the edge of the box, Lindsay beat the wall, but his strike came back off the right post.
Dunfermline’s first chance of note arrived on 19 minutes when a swift move down the left flank ended with Chris Kane’s shot being held by Brad Foster after a low delivery from Andrew Tod.
Andrew Tod looked like opening the scoring on 36 minutes when, from a quickly taken free-kick, he weaved past his markers and his shot from the edge of the box was gathered by Foster.
But the teams went in at the break all square and County would have been encouraged by their performance in the opening 45 minutes.
Just before the hour mark, County were in front when Lindsay headed home from close range when he met a cross from Jack Turner after Lewis Reid knocked play out wide right.
It sparked celebrations in the away stand from delighted Staggies supporters as their team’s positive play had them in front against the odds.
Dunfermline up the ante and drew level with 12 minutes to go as Oyirwoth tapped home from close range to finish off a fine move which involved subs Lobban and Cooper and then the provider Alfons Amade.
However, County secured the victory when, from a fine Graham through ball, sub Chin burst through on goal and sent a searing shot high beyond Oxborough to put County into the last eight.
It’s back to league business for Ross County on Saturday with a trip to Airdrieonians, a team they defeated 3-0 last month in the Premier Sports Cup.
