Ross County 6 Deveronvale 2

SIX GOALS! What a boost for Ross County and their goal-starved fans in a game where County could have scored a proverbial barrow-load! However, the joy was tinged with a little disappointment, as two late goals by Deveronvale were certainly not expected and should have been prevented by a team that had dominated the game so completely. These goals came at a time when perhaps the team was somewhat “unsettled” by two late substitutions. However, that was not entirely the point! The defence seemed to find great difficulty clearing their own area, seeming more content to tap their way out of danger and suffering as a consequence. Cross balls again proved unsettling, and there is no doubt that come the Inverness Cup Final with Caley at Inverness, remedies must be found to overcome such situations.
The best goal of the game came in the sixth minute of play and was the result of a first-class move between Cammie Robertson and Nero Macdonald, with Cammie setting Nero off down the right wing on a precision pass from mid-way in his own half, and running through the middle to take a cross from his colleague in his stride and blast it home from all of 18 yards
Two minutes later, Nero himself scored, finishing off another combined move down the right.
Full back Scott Lemmon got into the act in the 16th minute, when he scored with a looping header into the far corner of the net from a Ferries corner.
There was no further scoring in the first half, but two minutes into the second, Nero broke through the middle on a pass from Lemmon, sprinted past two defenders, drew the keeper out of goal, and in his second attempt—his first was thwarted by a defender—shot home County’s fourth, and his own second goal.
David Macrae broke through, but his perfectly flighted cross was missed by Macdonald and Ferries in good scoring positions in front of goal.
Came the 62nd minute, and Connelly scored County’s fifth goal, hitting the ball home when put in possession after a spell of inter-passing between Ferries and Robertson, the latter providing the pass perfectly placed on the penalty spot.
Five minutes later, Billy Ferries completed the County tally when he cut in from the right, and as the keeper came off his line, drove the ball past him.
Gary Morrison scored for Deveronvale in the 72nd minute after the defence failed to clear their lines, and then in the 81st minute, Graham Mile headed home a cross from the left.
Albert Allan made a welcome return to the team and had a good first half up front.
