| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Caledonian FC 2 Ross County 0 ALTHOUGH Caley took the Inverness Cup by two goals to nil in the final at Kingsmills Park, Inverness, on Wednesday of last week, the honours, as far as Ross County supporters were concerned, went to their favourites. An opening twenty-minute spell, in which it seemed every defensive mishap occurred, might have unsettled County for the rest of the game, but overcoming Caley pressure and a degree of nervousness that almost led to panic, County emerged only a goal down. Beginning to put together some first-class football, roared on by their fans who were present in great numbers on the night. County showed their quality. Caley got the cup, but County gained no small amount of glory for their superlative display under the circumstances. What a pity Don Cowie’s penalty kick struck the upright with Hamish Morrison beaten! A goal might have made that little bit of difference and inspired the boys to even greater effort. Even so, their supporters returned from Inverness somewhat encouraged by the display, and with the feeling that, as far as they were concerned, their day would come! |
