| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Deveronvale 0 Ross County 3 ROSS COUNTY will now meet Buckie Thistle or Elgin City in the third round of the Scottish Qualifying Cup. Again, the tie will be played away from home. However, County's tonic 3-0 victory over Deveronvale at Banff on Saturday, in the second round, should give them some inspiration. County fielded Gordon Connolly, their recent acquisition from Dunfermline Athletic, a club with which Manager Bobby Wilson was closely associated as coach. Gordon gave an inspired performance, bringing a bit more flair to the midfield, from which the front runners benefited. Overall it was a great display, giving more heart to the Ross-shire support. County dominated throughout, and Deveronvale were rarely seen as an attacking force. After intense pressure, County took the lead in the 30th minute, when Donald Mackay scored from 25 yards. In the 32nd minute, Dave Jackson got a second from close in to give County a 2-0 half-time lead, and almost certain passage to the third round. In the second half, County continued to dominate the scene, but it was not until the 85th minute that Jackson scored their third goal, when he took advantage of a defensive error. |
