Inverness Thistle 1 Ross County 1

The meeting of Inverness Thistle and Ross County teams in the replayed section final of the Highland League Cup competition, played at Kingsmills Park, Inverness, last night, will be memorable in many ways. First of all it attracted a crowd of almost six thousand, who enjoyed every moment of the game, which was the third occasion on which the teams had met to decide who should enter the semi-final of the competition proper. Their first meeting was at Inverness last Saturday, when the match ended in a draw (1-1). On Wednesday they met for a second time at Dingwall and ended in another draw (1-1), making the aggregate 2-2. Last night at Inverness, after a thrilling game, the match ended with exactly the same result — one all. The next replay will, it is understood, take place at Dingwall on Saturday.
The game started excitingly with Ross County scoring, through Hanna in less than five minutes from the start. This success put spirit into their play, and for a while Thistle were kept on the defensive, and their capable goalkeeper, Mackintosh, saved his side miraculously on several occasions. Thistle settled down slowly and Ross County then showed that they had a strong defence and a sound goalkeeper in Newton, who was able to deal with shots which might well have passed a first-rate custodian. Thistle exerted great pressure, and Brady, their prospective player-coach, although hurt earlier in the game, showed commendable leadership, and it was mainly through his skilful play that, to the delight of the great crowd, the efforts of the Thistle forwards were rewarded by Allison sending the ball into goal and equalising the score.
If the first period was thrilling and worthy of two such equally-matched teams, the second period, from beginning to end, was one of the most strenuous exhibitions seen for some time in such a hard-fought contest. At the very outset Thistle should have registered a goal from an early and easy opening, and Ross County, too, missed chances, Mackintosh in goal again being a hero. He seemed to be unfairly hurt by one of the Ross-shire men, who was sternly warned by the referee. To the delight of the crowd the game was full of spirit and good play, with Ross-shire however pressing strongly in the last minutes, but the Thistle defence held out, and no further goals came their way.
