Lossiemouth 2 Ross County 3

Ross County pursue their all-conquering course in the cup-ties they have so far played off. Following their meritorious performances in the League Cup, they added another success in the first round of the northern section of the Qualifying Cup at Lossiemouth last Saturday, when they defeated the local eleven by the odd goal, with a result of 3-2. Perhaps the victory may not have been a spectacular one against such doughty opposition, but the fact remains that the Ross men have achieved something to be really proud of.
Lossiemouth were early in form and straightaway attacked. A terrific free kick from Johnston saw Newton tip the ball over the bar, and the resulting corner was cleared.
County, however, were not taking things lying down, and within six minutes Finlay Browning, who had returned to true form, shot low past Ramsay, an act which put the visitors and their supporters in fine fettle. But play petered out for a while, with nothing much to enthuse over, until a spell of persistent pressure after resumption saw Morrison account with a smart header from a Sneddon cross.
Both sides fought hard for the winner, which against the run of play, went to Ross County in the 74th minute, when Ogilvie scored from an Urquhart slip, following a free kick. Sutherland increased the visitors' lead when he beat Kellas and the custodian for possession of the ball. Johnston secured number two for Lossiemouth soon after from a penalty award, and the final whistle went without further scoring.
