| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Deveronvale 5 Ross County 6 Ross County's first Highland League 1 game of the season against Deveronvale, at Banff, on Saturday, resulted in a win by six goals to five. County started pressing straight away and Ferguson tested Allan with a smart drive. Smith, for the Vale, nearly went through on his own but sound defence work prevented him scoring. Newton and the County defence were steady and cleared their lines smartly. After six minutes, County took the lead when Clarke crossed to Ogilvie, who made sure from close in. In a matter of minutes, Deveronvale drew level, Smith being the marksman. Half-time arrived without further scoring. The second half livened up considerably and County kept applying pressure. Goals were soon registered, Thain and Clarke each netting, and after Williamson had scored for Deveronvale, Findlay scored the most spectacular goal of the match, Allan dropping the ball. Ogilvie, County, and Williamson and Smith, Vale, added goals, and a final burst came when J. Macdonald beat two defenders as well as the goalkeeper to put County in the lead just on time.——— |
