Ross County 0 Peterhead 6

Ross County struck a decidedly bad patch in their fixture with Peterhead at Victoria Park on Saturday afternoon. With George Sutherland and Newton out of action, the team was not the one which has done so well since the season started, and although their first defeat in the League was by the considerable majority of 6 goals to 0, with a consequent drop to third place, it was not a Waterloo.
Peterhead, on the other hand, are always a force to be reckoned with, and especially in the second half, did they keep up pressure. Their forwards are on the go all the time and rarely muff their chances. For Ross County the result may, perhaps, have the salutary effect of guarding against taking too much for granted. Success, like Dame Fortune, can whiles be a fickle jade.
Play in the first half was no criterion of what was to follow in the second. It was fairly even, with County playing against sun and wind. After some Paterson misses, particularly Urquhart, Patience failed to clear a shot from Mutch, and Paterson made no bones about Peterhead's first goal.
On resumption County attacked strongly but it was evident that they would have to work hard to alter matters. They kept pressing, but Peterhead defence withstood all onslaughts. Hopes rose with a long shot by Ferguson, which just went over. Number two for the visitors came when Hay hit the upright with a hard shot which rebounded to him, and with Ross on the ground, all that was necessary was to tap the ball into the net. From then on, Peterhead scored with clock-like alacrity. Mutch (2), Hay and Paterson increased the visitors' lead to six when the final whistle blew.
Considering all factors, the result was perhaps slightly flattering to the East Coast team, but, as stated, they rarely let an opportunity to score pass. County appeared to have an off day, and at times seemed listless in getting up to the ball. Mr A. Harrower, Keith, had charge of the game.
