Buckie Thistle 3 Ross County 2

Ross County had hard luck at Victoria Park, Buckie, on Saturday, when they dropped valuable points in their League Supremacy. Both Newton and Ogilvie were out of play for a considerable period through injuries.
County kicked off but Buckie were first on the attack, and Patience, in trying to clear, lobbed the ball right over the crossbar, where Newton could only palm it out to Stewart, who, however, hit the side netting from an acute angle. This let-off spurred the visitors to great efforts, and, playing fast, open football with the ball on the carpet, they opened their account through Ferguson. Again the County attacked and Ogilvie essayed a header which hit the upright and came out, and only after great difficulty was the ball finally cleared. Half a minute later, following clever work on the left, Ferguson ran through and beat Findlay all ends up, with a drive into the corner of the net.
Two up after minutes and the County playing at their best, looked good, but they could not turn their midfield superiority into goals. Buckie members were not loath in telling their players what to do, but short passing was no avail against first time tackling by the County defence, in which Farmer and Sutherland were excelling themselves. Driving showers of rain and sleet began to make the pitch greasy and the ball made unexpected skids and bounces to the dismay of players on both sides. Buckie gradually improved, but weak finishing, especially by Lawrie, spoiled their chances. After 30 minutes, Stewart, a speedy centre, trailed the ball out to the left and crossed a high one which found its billet in the far corner of the net; a fine looking goal, but probably meant for a centre. Then misfortune struck the County. Newton was taken off, with blood streaming from his nose, after receiving someone's fist in a goalmouth melee, and Findlay went between the sticks. He was soon in action, first fisting out a Lawrie cross, then a terrific point blank drive by Stewart.
Just on half-time Ferguson, who had been playing great stuff, was carried off in agony after getting the full weight of a fast shot in the stomach. So County finished the half with only nine men.
Newton resumed after the interval, but it was some minutes before Ferguson came on. Buckie now commenced to play as the County had done in the first half, and the crowd had their money's worth of thrills and fast end-to-end play. County defence was having a strenuous time against lively Buckie forwards, and it was no surprise when the equaliser came. A free kick, for a foul by Clark, was lobbed into the centre by Laing, and Johnstone rushed in to drive first-time into the net. Then Ogilvie had a chance, when Rae miskicked, but his parting shot went wide of the post. At the other end, Donaldson missed two gilt-edged chances, but the winning goal came shortly afterwards, when Lawrie breasted the ball down and lobbed it in. The fact that he mis-hit the ball caught the defence on the wrong leg, for it did not go where the player had intended. Bremner tried two shots in quick succession, Findlay only being able to divert them for corners, and just before time the outside left missed a good opportunity when he drove an Urquhart cross just wide of the post with the goalkeeper unbalanced
