Inverness Thistle 1 Ross County 1

Ross County journeyed to Kingsmills, Inverness, on Saturday, full of optimism that the bogey which has shadowed them would at last be shaken off. It still persists, and indeed, the County were lucky to secure a point in a game which never rose above mediocrity. Giving their poorest display for some time, on the one-handed ground, County had to wait until practically the final whistle before equalising Thistle's first half penalty goal.
Thistle won the toss and County were set to face the sun. Immediately the home forwards started an attack and looked like scoring an opportunity but finished weakly. Not to be subdued, the forwards pressed again, and a scoring shot was cleared off the line by Farmer with Newton well beaten.
Two corners to Thistle in quick succession proved fruitless. Bartlett had a likely opening, but shot over when a pass to unmarked Gibson would have been more profitable. Farmer again kicked off the goal line with Newton beaten. At length County began to show signs of settling and Ogilvie broke through, only to find Christie out to the ball before him. The County keeper was in action, first, to save an Ogilvie header, then a thirty-yard drive from Nimmo, who had come up to try his luck.
After thirty-two minutes, Patience went to tackle Gibson, who had eluded Farmer, slipped on the hard ground and the winger went over the outstretched legs in the penalty area. Referee Shanks awarded a penalty and Carr had no difficulty in sending the ball home. A second half-time came with Thistle deservedly holding a one-goal lead.
Urged on by the small but vociferous Inverness contingent, County restarted as if to prove that their first half display was a mistake and Bremner just failed to connect with a Clark cross when well placed. The visitors were enjoying midfield superiority but weak and misplaced passes were allowing the Thistle defence to break up potential attacks. Thistle took up the attacking role, and from a Gray corner, Gibson ran in to smash the ball against the foot of the upright to be cleared down field, where Ogilvie drew the defence before sending out a perfect pass to Clark. The outside man bore down on goal and sent in a low, hard drive for the far post, but Christie went down to make a thrilling full-length save, which turned the ball for a corner.
Thistle attacked desperately, but Farmer and Nimmo stood firm in face of the steady onslaught, both keeping cool heads, with the result that Newton was not seriously troubled.
In an endeavour to strengthen their attack, County made changes. Browning went to centre forward; Ogilvie on the right wing with Clark as his partner; Finlay went to right half, while Patience and Sutherland interchanged positions.
With Inverness supporters clamouring for time, Bremner placed a perfect corner to the far post, and Patience, up with the attack, rose above everyone to nod the ball down into the net. The ball was centred—a few aimless kicks—and County had stolen a point.
