| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Ross County 3 Lossiemouth 0 Biting showers of sleet throughout the afternoon did not deter Ross County from inflicting a decisive 3-0 defeat on Lossiemouth, in their second round replay in the North of Scotland Cup competition, at Victoria Park, Dingwall, last Saturday. On the contrary, the Ross men seemed to revel in it. County will now meet Elgin City in the semi-final at Dingwall, on 12th March. Lossiemouth won the toss, and on a field of heavy glaur, took the advantage of a rising nor-wester. County were first on the attack, with Macdonald forcing a corner, which Urquhart sent over. They pressed on to score after six minutes, when Kellas was pulled up for obstructing Urquhart on the 18-yard line. Bremner received Urquhart's pass, which he hit home in fine style. County again looked like scoring when Clark, beating his man, gave Lyall a low ball, which the latter missed. But Lyall made no mistake with his next opportunity, when, after 33 minutes' play, he netted from an Ogilvie pass. Lossiemouth were straining to reduce the leeway, but it was County who again accounted through Clark, and the interval arrived with three clear goals to their credit. The second half opened with the visitors showing more dash, and Pattison looked like doing something, but finished weakly. They could not overcome the Ross men's rushing tactics, however, and it was Browning who nearly increased his side's total, with a strong drive from 40 yards, which Lowden smartly punched clear. It was all County now, and but for exceptionally clever work by Lowden, the margin of goals would have been increased. Within minutes he saved rocket-like shots from Bremner and Ogilvie. The Ross men held their lead tenaciously until the final whistle went, ensuring their entry into the semi-final. |
