Inverness Thistle 5 Ross County 2

This game was played at Kingsmills on Monday evening, and marked the reopening of the ground after having been requisitioned by the Military since 1939.
In the first half the visitors were much more impressive than their opponents and two early goals by Cameron, the second a magnificent effort, indicated their superiority. This continued for the full 45 minutes, and it was only the hardest of luck, and a good display of goalkeeping by W. J. Macdonald, Thistle's latest recruit from Ross County, that kept the eager visiting forwards from scoring. Thistle were not very dangerous, yet got an easy goal when a shot from Macleod cannoned off the inside of an upright into the net.
The home team staged a great recovery in the second half. Under pressure, the County halves and backs faltered, and Newton was overwhelmed. He held his own for a long time, but eventually had to yield, and goals followed by Macinnes, Owens, Macleod and Gray. On the run of play, County did not deserve to finish so far in arrears—but it is goals that count.
