Elgin City 3 Ross County 3

Ross County should have won this game in the first 45 minutes. Eventually they were lucky to share the points. In the last third of the game, Elgin City deservedly equalised, and if the final whistle had not intervened, they would have finished victors. That all sounds paradoxical, but it is true. From start to finish the pace was extremely fast. Ross County were easily the better in the first half and should have had numerous goals. They had to be content to turn round with a two goal to one lead. Then came the contrast. Elgin City took up the offensive, quickly equalised, only to see Ogilvie, six minutes later, net a magnificent goal. But Elgin were not to be denied and although Armstrong missed a penalty, he atoned later with the equaliser. Ross County returned home with a point, but what an opportunity they lost.
The game opened at a great pace, which lasted to the end. The visitors were more impressive at the start and six minutes gone when Cameron beat Munro with a well-placed shot. Armstrong was Elgin's most active forward, and twice in quick succession he grazed the upright with strong drives. At the other end, Munro was called upon to stop shots by Cameron and Ogilvie. This he did confidently, and particularly Ogilvie's effort. This was a brilliant save and he thoroughly deserved the cheer which echoed all round the ground. Armstrong again came into the limelight with a drive from a difficult angle, which struck the crossbar, with Newton in goal. It fell to Hillditch, however, to get the fruits of a corner kick. The advantage was nullified two minutes later, when Ogilvie neatly slipped a ball past Munro, following a misunderstanding between Maclachlan and the goalkeeper. The game raged from end to end, but the most dangerous shot came from Elgin, which Munro was lucky to stop. Ross County fully deserved their lead of 2-1 at half-time.
Shortly after the restart, Elgin City were awarded a penalty when Hillditch was pushed off the ball, but Armstrong made a dreadful mess of the spot kick. Undeterred, Ross County went off with great dash, and Cameron put his team two up with a rocket shot from well out. It was then that Elgin City staged a revival. A long range shot by Ralph put Newton on his back, but he grimly held on to the ball, and eventually cleared. After G. Munro had shot over the bar, Armstrong obliged with number two. It was a brilliant goal, and on play thoroughly deserved. Anxious for the equaliser, the home team went all out and Armstrong completed a good afternoon's work by getting number three just before time.
The hardest worked man on the field was referee Duggie Mackintosh. The ball travelled from end to end at a great pace and he had to follow it all the time.
