| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Fraserburgh 8 Ross County 2 The Ross County team which travelled to Fraserburgh was unrecognisable from that originally selected. It had been chosen for experimental purposes. In the end it was a task to get eleven players to make the journey. One who had to come to the rescue was an old and tried faithful, who seldom fails to meet his comrades and give them a send-off and good luck. Cameron, Mackinnon and Urquhart cried off, and Chisholm, Forsyth and Connell had to be commandeered, two of them from the second eleven. Fraserburgh attacked at the outset and Newton was early into the fray. He survived and at the other end Miller looked well placed when an off-side infringement intervened. Back came the Brochers and again Newton was busy. He distinguished himself when he stopped a Buchan grounder, and a few minutes later tipped a Morrison drive over the bar. For a time County held their own. G. Sutherland was a tower of strength at back, and Ogilvie was the best man in front, sending across some well-placed balls, which nobody would accept. Ferguson sent in a 20 yard special, but Geddes was all there. Then Grieve opened the scoring for the home team. No one could grudge it them. It was a well-taken goal from a perfect Morrison jaunt. End to end play followed. After Morrison had flashed the ball over the crossbar, Millct had a certain goal blocked on the line. Ogilvie got an opportunity with his head, but his direction was faulty. Centre-forward Davidson came into the limelight with a delightful goal for Fraserburgh. Thirty-five minutes had gone when he carried the ball to the right and let drive. Newton had to admit defeat for a second time. The home team were now on top and at half-time Morrison and Grieve had brought the total to four. Just before the whistle blew, Ferguson scored a brilliant goal for the County. On resuming, the visitors set about the task of reducing the leeway. In three minutes Connell got the ball on the run, and with a strong shot beat Geddes. For a period County were better than their opponents, particularly on the left, where Ferguson and Connell greatly pleased the crowd with their display. Such strong pressure could not be maintained. Back came the untiring Brochers. Davidson counted number five for Fraserburgh, and within ten minutes Davidson, Morrison and Macdonald had brought the total to eight. Result: —Fraserburgh, 8; Ross County, 2. This week Ross County gets a rest. Time for thought. |
