Deveronvale 6 Ross County 4

The visitors were all at sea in the first half. Nothing seemed to come right to them. Ogilvie at outside left never appeared to settle in his unusual position. Weir, who was tried at centre-forward, has great speed, but when he did pass Barron, he was met by two capable defenders in Duncan and Weyburn. Deveronvale's first goal came from Stephen, when he caught the County defence napping, following a free kick. It was a shot which gave Newton no chance. Within a few minutes this success was nullified, when Adam Forsyth connected with a corner kick, perfectly placed by Macbeth. Then the home lot took charge, with catastrophic results to the County team. In quick succession four goals were registered against them, two by Stephen and one each by Calder and Grant.
Facing a four goal deficit when ends were changed, the County altered the placings of the team. Robertson went to the half-back line and Ferguson took his place, Clark crossing from inside left to inside right. Ogilvie and Weir also changed positions. From the first sound of the whistle, Ross County attacked, the reorganisation of the front line proving most effective. Deveronvale could not withstand the eager offensive and eventually it succumbed. Skilful outfield play by Macbeth found Clark in good scoring position. He made no mistake. Ferguson added another with a shot which Borowski was unable to stop. Macbeth again came into the limelight with a solo dribble and a left foot drive which sailed into the corner of the net with the goalkeeper helpless.
Such good fortune could not last, and it came to Deveronvale's chance. Stephen grasped the opportunity and in scoring his fourth goal, he put his team two up. This completed the scoring, but the County fought gamely to the end. All over it was a keen and well-contested game. Deveronvale won because of their hurricane start, before Ross County had found their feet.
