| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Rothes 2 Ross County 3 Although not at full strength, Ross County secured full points at Rothes, due mostly to a dashing finish, in which they converted a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 victory. Newton and Ferguson were unable to travel and their places were taken by W. Macdonald, Beauly, and R. Macdonald, Evanton. Neither let the County down. Rothes started strongly and Gordon early missed a scoring opportunity when he sent over the bar from close in. Then the County goalkeeper brought off a grand save from Parkinson, who was being well fed by Smith. When County did get going, McMahon had hard lines with a header which just cleared the cross-bar. It was the result of a perfect cross by Urquhart. Rothes, however, could not be denied and they deserved the lead when Grant scored, even if it was a "soft" goal. Ten minutes later the same player put his side two up, this time with a great drive from 30 yards. County struggled on gamely. Ogilvie got in a good shot which was smartly saved by Bremner. Just on half-time Ogilvie had the satisfaction of beating Bremner. In the second half County had more of the play and were unfortunate in not scoring on several occasions. A penalty award was taken by Adam Forsyth and he made no mistake. For a time the exchanges were fairly even, but towards the end the visitors put on sustained pressure and were rewarded when Ogilvie beat Bremner with a header. Ross County just deserved to win. |
