| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Inverness Thistle 3 Ross County 1 Kingsmills not yet having been de-requisitioned, this game took place at the Bught Park, Inverness. Ross County had much the better of play in the first half. They were more methodical in attack, especially on the right wing, where Macbeth and Rankine were a thorn in the flesh of the Thistle defence. Macbeth, in particular, was very dangerous and goals ought to have followed for the County. On the other hand, the Thistle forwards were reckless. They did not combine well together. The back division also was at fault. Ogilvie had the distinction of registering the County's only goal, after a clever piece of work on the right wing. Subsequently County made great attempts to increase their lead, but Mapplebeck in goal, and the backs, kept the spirited forwards at bay. Just in the closing minutes of the first half, and against the run of play, Owens equalised for the Thistle. Determined play, but lacking in combination, characterised the second half. Pyke was always a danger, if selfish. The brothers Forsyth at back were very sound for the County. Later Thistle improved, and Watson put them in the lead. From this point the home team gained the ascendancy, the play of the visitors deteriorating as a result. Macdonald, who had gone centre, put Thistle further ahead. County made a determined effort to reduce the leeway, but Mapplebeck, Main and Carr held them. It was a disappointing display throughout. Thistle won, but the boot might easily have been on the other foot. |
