| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Elgin City 1 Ross County 2 A most gratifying result from Ross County's point of view, and deserved if only for the magnificent defence put up by Newton especially, and Patience. They were lucky to win. Perhaps, but even if so, it cannot be maintained that Dame Fortune has shone in favour of the County so far this season. Elgin took the lead after ten minutes through Mackenzie, but in a very short time this was negatived when Ogilvie scrambled through the equaliser. After 27 minutes Ferguson unexpectedly gave Ross County the lead. It was a Ferguson "special." From 25 yards he took a free kick and the ball went into the net with Munro unsighted. In the second half City held the upper hand. They dictated the play and had several opportunities of scoring, but frittered their chances away. The County defence deserve every praise for putting up a magnificent fight. On play a draw would have been a more fair result. The Elgin defence was also sound, with Ralph outstanding. The halves kept the ball moving, but only Spence and Russell showed enterprise in front. Newton was the hero for Ross County, and Patience was the better of two sound backs. Adam Forsyth was a trojan for work in the mid line, but the artist was Gollan substituted for Ross at the last minute. The right-half showed much promise. Little fault could be found with the forwards when they did get going, which was not too often. |
