| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Caledonian FC 5 Ross County 1 A treacherous ground and an unhelpful wind marred this game at Telford Street, Inverness. Caledonian won, and that handsomely by 5 goals to 1. No one could grudge them their victory, but the score somewhat exaggerated the difference between the teams. It was late in the game before the home team gained the ascendency. Ross County was equally as good as their opponents in the outfield play. The halves and forwards had many clever moves, but the latter lamentably failed in front of goal. Against stalwart W. Rooney, Ogilvie had little opportunity to shine. The Caley kept the play open, especially in the second half, and they reaped their reward. Adam Forsyth was missed at centre-half, but Raybould seems adaptable. Tommy Urquhart is not a right winger, but young Connell was very clever on the left wing. It is to be hoped that the Navy will soon be done with him. There could be little grumble with the County defence. Newton could not be blamed for the goals scored against him. D. Forsyth improves with every game and Patience is always reliable. Gollan was the best of the halves and Ferguson the cleverest forward. The only goal in the first half was scored by Fraser of the home team. After the turn round two goals were registered in quick succession, bringing the home total to three. Armstrong got the first and Mackinnon the second, the ball striking the underside of the crossbar before entering the net. Ross County's long overdue reward came in the 24th minute of the second half, when Clark put the ball through during a melee in front of the Caley goal. At this stage County were going strong, but the spurt did not last and the home team added other two goals through Fraser and Mackinnon. |
