| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Ross County 3 Forres Mechanics 0 The replay in this competition—a 1-1 draw having taken place at Forres last week—took place at Dingwall on Wednesday evening, in presence of a very large crowd. Ross County lost the toss and had to play against a strong breeze blowing from the North. It proved no handicap. Right from the start they attacked and forced two corners. Then, when Forres settled, the spectators were treated to a delightful exhibition of football from both teams. There was no division of the teams on either side that did not shine. The defences were sound, the half-backs almost spoiled the forwards who, to a man, gave of their best. Some of the combined movements were a delight to watch. It was football pattern weaving at its best. That it did not bring results to either side, was entirely due to stone-wall defences. Considering that they were playing against the wind, Ross County deserved more credit, and no one could grudge them their one goal lead in the first half. It was the result of a perfect passing movement indulged in between Ferguson, Clark and Spiers, culminating in Ferguson coolly and deliberately lofting the ball into the net. The second half was as disappointing as its predecessor had been inspiring. Forres put up a great show in the opening minutes, and for a time they had the Ross County defence on tenterhooks. Then, in a sudden attack at the Forres end, their Polish goalkeeper had the misfortune to break a finger and was assisted off the field in much agony. Three minutes later Steel, in a tackle, received a leg injury and was carried off the field on a stretcher. Later it was found that two bones were broken. From this point the game deteriorated. Ross County took things easy against nine men, and these put up a plucky fight. Spiers and Ogilvie brought the County's score to three. Ross County now meet Nairn County in the second round at Dingwall. |
