| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Huntly 6 Ross County 2 Ross County got little chance from their encounter at Huntly, the home team running almost as easily as the score suggests. Huntly fell into the bad habit of slackening off with goals in hand, and found a County team quick to take advantage to slip two goals in as many minutes. Huntly took a firm grip after a quiet start, and the County goal was lucky several times to escape downfall before Cruickshank—who incidentally is on top form at the moment—showed supreme judgment in neatly slipping the sphere into an empty goal past the advancing 'keeper. Huntly stuck to the close-passing style. On the day it paid best, and goal-scoring looked easy. Stewart, who throughout gave County defence no end of trouble, headed 2 great goals from the penalty spot, and Gordon, making his second show in the senior team, got a third. It was after Shand scored in the eighth minute of the second half that Huntly rested on their oars. Four-goals' lead against a quick-moving side like County does not warrant any slackening. Cruickshank's and Stewart's goals near the end settled the issue. Paul had a soft job in the home goal. Applegate both deserved and got the crowd's applause. Munro and Jack also put in a hard afternoon trying unsuccessfully to check Huntly's smart forward line. Barrie, County coach, had a hot handful in Stewart. The visitors' forwards would have been dangerous if properly supported by the men in the rear. |
