Ross County 5 Inverness Thistle 2

Ross County did not master Inverness Thistle at Dingwall in a League game, as the score of 5-2 in their favour would indicate. It was a fast, rousing struggle throughout, with Thistle very often, even when well down, looking like pulling the game round. The crowd enjoyed it, and the win to the County was a happy revival.
Team changes in the Ross side were many. All were effective and justified, but it might be said that the "fire" of Munro in the back division was missed and probably his experience and daring—as well as entertaining—tackle, would have helped greatly to stem the Thistle attack at their periods of dominance.
Coulthart, in Munro's place, however, proved himself a good back with any amount of resource and courage. In fact, he and Mitchell, both Air Force men, stood out. Both have already turned out for County, and it can be said of Mitchell that he would grace a forward line playing in a grade of football far above Highland League standard.
With a rest the previous week, Ernie Gowl returned to the side with new life, and imparted it to his colleagues. Gowl had two goals, but besides that his play was clever, nippy and very fast. He, Mitchell and Murray, hit it off, and we had the centre at his best.
Neil Gillies, an entertaining player who puts himself wholeheartedly into any game, was brilliant throughout. A great forager, he was wonderful both in attack and defence. Mitchell, Gowl and Gillies made the best inside trio on Saturday's showing County have yet turned out this season.
Mitchell scored first for County. Previous to this, misses had been numerous and glaring at both ends. Applegate, in fact, had every chance of showing his known ability as a goalkeeper, and did so with at times miraculous skill.
Before half time Gowl notched two other points. Ewen Gillies—a brother of Neil—getting Thistle's score.
On resumption, the game was as fast as ever. Exchanges were as often at one end as the other. However Murray put County further ahead, and with a goal from D. Kay, Thistle fought harder to break through County defence. A penalty scored by Mackay, made the game safe for Ross County.
