| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Peterhead 2 Ross County 0 Interest in the Peterhead-Ross County game was maintained only because the result was in doubt almost until the close. Peterhead were just worth their victory in a poor game. While there were quite a number of bright passages, there was a lot of loose work, and the finishing of both sides was poor. Defences were generally on top. Peterhead started off strongly, and J. Buchan gave Peterhead the lead after fifteen minutes' play. Applegate got his hands to the ball, but he could not keep it out. Towards the interval Ross County came away strongly, but without result. With a minute to go Gowans failed to net a penalty for Peterhead, the ball striking the upright. With less than fifteen minutes to go, J. Buchan settled matters with another goal for Peterhead. Ross County fought pluckily until the close, but they failed to get a goal, which, over the whole game they really deserved. Perhaps the best player on the field was Barrie, the Ross County centre-half. By fine positional play Barrie saved himself a great deal of running, and Peterhead found it extremely difficult to get the ball past him. He was master of Meres, the home leader. Another grand Dingwall player was Applegate in goal. Bowie did a lot of foraging in the forward line, and Gowl, with few real chances, was always on the alert. |
