| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Buckie Thistle 6 Ross County 4 A high wind was the main factor in this Highland League game at Buckie. The first half was only a few minutes old when Gowl, Ross County’s centre, lobbed the ball past Wood. For a long period the County had matters pretty much their own way, and only stubborn defence and the woodwork saved Buckie from being a couple of goals down. The locals could not get going against the stiff breeze, and their high-kicking clearances were all in Ross's favour. Buckie rallied, and Laing, centre, scored their first goal. The Dingwall men again pressed, but their shooting was erratic, Gowl being the only one at this period with any sense of direction. The latter had another two goals, making his hat-trick. J. Ross, County insideright, smashed home a fourth, Buckie being able to retaliate with only another goal from Laing. The score of 4-2 at half-time for Ross County did not dishearten the Thistle, who from the kick-off made for McNeill, and Laing netted. The County were not making such a good show against the wind, and the Thistle were rampant, but the Dingwall team defended well. Laing "cond the equaliser, and then the fireworks commenced. Duncan, Buckie’s ‘outside-left, screwed home another, and ‘then Bain added a sixth. Right to the ‘end it was all Buckie, the County having ionly one or two fruitless runs. |
