Ross County 1 Elgin City 1

This proved one of the best games of the season at Victoria Park. It was fought out at a great pace and with cup-tie enthusiasm. A draw was perhaps the fairest result, although it has to be admitted that the County had slightly the better of the exchanges.
Exciting duels marked the game from the start with Ross County showing up to slightly better advantage than their opponents. The Elgin defence was rattled time and again, and with a fragment of luck the County men would have set up a formidable lead. On the other hand Elgin played closer and perhaps better football, but failed to make any impression in a sound Ross defence. A neat Gow pass saw Millham head the ball against Lowden. He took no chances with the rebound and it went rocketing into the net. This reverse set Elgin on their toes, and after pressure, a smart move from Cormack to Maclennan saw the latter send in a perfect goal which Macneil had no chance to avert. Half-time arrived with the score even.
On resumption Elgin started a determined onslaught on the County defence, and on two or three occasions a goal seemed imminent. It was a narrow escape when Shanks reached the ball before Macneill, crashing it against the upright. Both teams strained hard for the lead and Ross County were well served by their attackers, Millham, Gillies and Ross each playing sound football. The final whistle went without further scoring. Ross County appeared to be slightly superior, a fact attributed perhaps to a sound defence, which has been visibly strengthened by the inclusion of Coulhart of the R.A.F. Millham, another member of the Air Force, was the star attacker, and is a real footballer. Both these men justified their inclusion in the team by their sound work. Shanks and Maclennan were the most prominent of the Elgin men.
