| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Forres Mechanics 2 Ross County 3 Forres Mechanics were somewhat fortunate to secure full Highland League points against Ross County in their concluding home fixture at Mosset Park, Forres, on Saturday. They were in the lead for eighty-five minutes, but a great closing spurt by the Dingwall team upset their calculations and robbed them of two points. Play in the first session was almost continually centred round the County goal but goal-scoring seemed a lost art among the Forres forwards. After Gillies and Whyte had tries stopped by the woodwork at the respective goals, J. Taylor gave Forres the lead by enticing Sommerville out of his charge and guiding the ball home. Shots from all directions bombarded the Dingwall goal, but Whyte was the only successful marksman. The County defence played well to restrict the interval deficit to two goals. Both teams were slow to settle after the cross-over. After half an hour's featureless play, Gowl rekindled interest by reducing the leeway. Five minutes from time the same player placed the scores level. Gillies got the all-important goal two minutes from the end. Prominent for the losers were Kelman, Rooney, Maclean, Macdonald and Whyte. Outstanding for Ross County were Coulthart, Burnett, Garrow, Mackay, Gillies and Gowl. |
