| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Elgin City 2 Ross County 1 Bad luck seems to dog Ross County in their opening games this season. Team changes—not of their asking—have had to be frequently made, while on two occasions the loss of their goalkeeper, Pryde, put them at a distinct disadvantage. On Saturday, at Elgin, they were beaten by the odd goal in three, which in itself is a creditable result for a visiting team at Boroughbriggs, but even more creditable still, when for practically the whole game they had to play with ten men. Pryde, in saving from Kelman in the first minutes, was severely hurt and was not allowed to return. Macpherson, who was playing his first game this season, went into goal, and to his display between the posts, in no small measure is due the credit of County’s gallant fight. Macpherson’s fine work inspired his colleagues, with the result that it was right on time that Elgin secured the winning goal. Elgin scored first in twenty minutes and crossed over with their lead. In the second half, Ross quickly equalised with a splendid effort. The fight for the winning point was a dour business, Macmillan, the Elgin player-coach, making the opening for Kelman to notch the point. Ian Aird, the old County centre-forward, made a welcome return and showed that he has lost little of his old dash. |
