| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Peterhead 6 Ross County 1 Ross County made the long journey to Peterhead on Saturday in search of league points. They did not succeed and, for the second week in succession, they had to return from the east with a five-goal deficit. It was not, however, until near the end of the game that Peterhead showed any distinctive superiority. The County adapted themselves to the heavy pitch better than their opponents, but they could not last the ninety minutes, and training and stamina told in the end. The County had to travel without A. Ross, Urquhart, and Aird. The handicap proved too much, although the substitutes gave a wonderful account of themselves. For the first ten minutes, the visitors monopolised the play with clean combined work in which Ross and Bowie shone. Indeed, this wing was prominent throughout, and their display was worthy of a goal. Peterhead, however, were opportunists. Almost in their first breakaway, they scored the result of a well-placed corner kick. It was a deceptive shot from Duthie, from thirty yards out. Pryde was surprised to see it go into the net. The second came just before half-time, when Stewart, accepting a pass from Townsley, walked through a number of defenders and shot a great goal. Ross County had had a good deal of the play, but Townsley was in great form, and with Moir in good fettle in goal, the visiting forwards had a lean time. Their cleverest moves were frustrated. Macmillan and Anderson put up a sound defence for the County, and the strong, clean clearances of the old Clyde-Fife player were much admired. The Peterhead forwards improved in the second half, and another clever goal by Stewart paved the way to victory. Brunham added a fourth with a curling shot which completely deceived Pryde. From that point, Ross County were completely outplayed, and the home forwards practically did what they liked against a disheartened lot. Two more goals were added, one by Emslie and the other by Craig. Near the end, the County got a consolation goal when Burnett, passing back to Moir, stupidly placed the ball beyond the latter’s reach. |
