| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Fraserburgh 1 Ross County 2 The team that represented Ross County at Fraserburgh on Saturday—succeeding for the first time in taking two points from the fishing port, and marking the first time this year they have returned with full points from an away game—had a different appearance from the usual formation. Macrae, Anderson, and Urquhart were all absent, which necessitated a complete reshuffle of the available players. Macpherson and J. A. Mackay formed the back line and were a complete success from start to finish. J. A. Mackay is no stranger to the full-back position, and on Saturday he demonstrated his versatility with a splendid all-round performance. He is credited as being the best player on the field. Macmillan, the coach, made an ideal centre-half; his experience in both breaking up attacks and urging on his forwards was very evident. Forward D. Bowie, a younger brother of W. Bowie, took his brother’s place on the outside-left wing. The brothers partnered each other, and they worked so well together that when Ross County fields their next eleven, this left-wing formation will be hard to overlook. County relied throughout on the long-passing game, quickly rattling the Broch, and they should have held a commanding lead at half-time. As it was, numerous chances went begging, and the teams went into the break goalless. A quarter of an hour into the second half had passed when Anderson gave the visitors the lead. Forrest equalised, but near the end, W. Bowie again proved to be County’s match-winner by scoring the winning goal. Ross County has every reason to be proud of themselves, and based on how the team played on Saturday, it is apparent that there is plenty of talent around the County, which only needs the opportunity to prove itself. |
