| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Ross County 2 Fraserburgh 2 Sharing four goals at Dingwall, the game between Ross County and Fraserburgh held very little interest, as both teams have long since conceded any hope of influencing the Highland League table. The day was ideal and the teams took the field before a fairly large crowd. In the County side, P. Mackay was in goal for A. Ross, while Fraserburgh were without three of their regular players. The game was of a very haphazard nature. Both teams took a time to settle down and were equally guilty of banging the ball about without method or direction. County held the whip hand, but Watson, the Fraserburgh centre half, had a stranglehold on the home forwards and gave them little room. Against the run of play, Tait scored for Fraserburgh, from an opening engineered by Watson. Exchanges were more lively and the numerous “near things” around the Fraserburgh goalmouth kept up interest. Before half-time, after many misses, County equalised, J. Ross driving home a very fine ball. The second half had a slow opening, but soon livened up and again County were the dominant side, doing the bulk of the pressing—and missing. County took the lead in a peculiar manner. Bowie slashed across a curling ball which looked as if it were to go out. It beat Barber, however, and Tarrel was on the goal line to make sure. Probably the ball was in before Tarrel touched it. Fraserburgh fought hard for the equaliser and their forays upfield became more numerous and dangerous, but they had to wait until near the end before they secured a goal. G. Bell, on the left wing, picked up a stray ball and although tackled, got in his shot, the ball bouncing before reaching Mackay and entering the net over his arms. The closing minutes were exciting, but both defences held out. |
