| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Ross County 2 Buckie Thistle 2 That two-goal lead at half-time against Buckie Thistle at Dingwall on Saturday was the undoing of Ross County. Their success gave them confidence, which ultimately turned into a reckless disregard for the finer points of the game, and when Buckie got going in the second half, County, instead of settling to a methodical game, slapped the ball anywhere. Buckie, always a stylish team, disappointed the spectators by their lack of indulging in their well-known and clever close-passing game. They, too, banged the ball anywhere, and their forwards and half-backs failed to make contact. Urquhart and Macdonald (afterwards injured) were the County scorers, while Middleton scored the two Buckie goals, one of them from the penalty spot. This was Ross County’s last home game in the League for the season and the general play reflected the fact. Mackay, in goal, gave a sound display although he is prone on occasion to drop the ball. Urquhart, as usual, was the soundest of backs, but J. A. Mackay did not strike his usual form and was uncertain in the tackle. The half-line was good if not brilliant, with Macrae reliable in defence. Macdonald, until injured, was the best forward: he is going to make good. Macmillan was clever in his distribution but was too often left unsupported. Tarrel, at times, gave grounds for great hopes, but usually his efforts frittered out. |
