| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Ross County 1 Forres Mechanics 5 Forres Mechanics defeated Ross County by five goals to one in the final of the Nairn and District Cup at Station Park, Nairn, on Saturday evening. Forres were lucky to win by such a margin. In the first half they led by two goals to one, somewhat against the run of play, but they were clearly superior in the second half. Ross County failed owing to their forwards not being able to control a light ball. The fine play of Jas. Dickie at outside left was also a big factor in Forres's victory. Both defenses were strong. Forsyth, Stewart and Cowie for Forres, and Mackay, Anderson, Urquhart and Macrae for Ross County, and Macaulay, County's right half, who is fancied by Clyde, caught the eye. The latter was the best player afield. Forres had a fine wing-half in Ross, while George and Jas. Dickie were the pick of the forwards. Only Cumming was worthy of note in the Ross attack. Jas. Dickie opened the scoring for Forres, and Mackay equalised. Near the interval Jas. Dickie again put Forres in the lead. On the restart two goals by Black settled the issue. Johnston got the fifth near the end. Provost John Mackay presented the Cup to the winners. |
