Forres Mechanics 2 Ross County 0

Ross County were defeated at Forres on Saturday in a league game, by two goals to nil. Jack Cross, who was Ross County’s first goalkeeper and kept goal when the County won the North of Scotland Cup in their first year in the competition, took the injured Sherlaw’s place in goal. Cross showed he has lost none of his old skill and, although beaten twice, earned credit from the game. Otherwise, the team was the same that has consistently turned out these last few weeks.
The game was a scrappy one. In the outfield, Forres held a distinct advantage and County had to do the bulk of the defending. A shot from a difficult angle by Shanks gave Forres the lead. In the second half, Mackenzie made a great attempt to equalise, going through on his own, but Grant held the centre’s drive. The County forwards did not show their usual dash, and when Marshall netted another point for Forres, the County were a beaten team. Forres had a splendid defence, with Grant excelling in goal. Dickie and Shanks were the pick of the forwards. County were well served by Cross, Anderson, Macrae, Urquhart, and Bowie, but as a whole, none of the team played up to their reputation.
