| Match Report | Report from the Fraserburgh Herald. Fraserburgh 6 Ross County 0 Fraserburgh won the toss and had the advantage of a following wind. Nothing exciting happened in the opening stages. Fraserburgh did most of the pressing but were allowed few scoring chances. The first thrill came when Duncan got off on his own, but his parting shot struck the side of the net. The visitors obtained two fruitless corners and made good progress against the wind. Play continued very even, much of it being in midfield. After 25 minutes play Fraserburgh opened the scoring. M’Gregor sent in a long dropping shot, on which G. Ball got his head to land it in the corner of the net well out of reach. M’Gregor was spoonfeeding his forwards, who were showing enterprise, with Duncan prominent. A corner for the homesters was not improved upon, but the visiting defence was being well tested. At the other end Bowie had a good effort, but Anderson did the needful. Keen midfield tussles followed with neither side gaining the ascendancy. Towards the end of the half Fraserburgh attacked vigorously and a minute from time by a pass from Davidson, Robertson headed into the net. With the assistance of the breeze the County were doing most of the attacking and Bowie and Terrel on the wings sent in dangerous shots. At the other end the ball bobbed menacingly in front of MacKey, and Davidson fell when in a good scoring position. Geo. Ball had a goal at his mercy, but shot past the upright. After lively midfield bout, the champions forced a corner, but nothing came of it. J. A. Mackenzie broke through the defence and made ground rapidly. His shot was smartly saved at full length by Anderson. Fraserburgh increased their lead to three goals by a very clever move on the part of Duncan, who beat several and crossed into the goalmouth for G. Ball to score at point blank range. Another goal followed shortly afterwards. Taylor got possession at the corner flag and with a fast grounder from an acute angle struck the inside of the upright for G. Bell to score off his chest. The champions were now dominating the play and showing superiority in all departments and the wind proved no handicap to their movements. Shortly before the close of play Duncan caught on at the line and lifted the ball into the goalmouth for Geo. Ball to beat MacKey at close range. Immediately after G. Bell gave to Davidson who registered number six with an unstoppable shot. Duncan almost increased the score, his shot grazing the upright. |
