| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Peterhead 2 Ross County 3 A PETERHEAD VIEW. Ross County created a surprise in this Highland League match by wresting full points from Peterhead (so writes a Peterhead journalist). On the whole the visitors played the better football, and deserved their win. Ross County’s strength lay in defence. Anderson and Stewart were outstanding at back and the half-backs gave a sterling display throughout. In the forward line Macleod was prominent at inside-left. The middle line was Peterhead’s mainstay. The forwards, while showing splendid combination, missed many opportunities through weak finishing. Peterhead took the lead after twenty minutes, Bennett converting a cross from Davidson. Ross County retaliated in spirited style, and Cowie had a great try. An enterprising move by Ross County’s left-wing resulted in Cowie sending in a swift shot which gave the Peterhead ’keeper no chance. Shortly afterwards Bennett put his side in the lead again, and at the crossover led by the odd goal. Ross County improved vastly in the second period. They settled to a forceful and constructive game, and in twenty minutes Macpherson scored. Macleod added another goal, and although Peterhead made strenuous efforts to equalise the visitors held tenaciously to their lead. |
