| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Inverness Clachnacuddin 1 Ross County 0 Ross County, with a depleted side due mainly to Urquhart playing at Brora in a Sutherlandshire cup-tie, fell to Inverness Clachnacuddin by the only goal scored. As everywhere in Scotland, the weather was boisterously wet, making the day a miserable one for both spectators and players. To make up for Urquhart’s absence, Anderson was played at centre-half with Macpherson at left-back and Stewart moving over to the right-back position. Maclaren, a young university student who hailed from the West, was included at right-half, while F. Macleod completed the forward line by filling Macpherson’s accustomed place at outside-left. Clach had the better of the first half, due mainly to the advantage of winning the toss. Stewart and Macpherson were severely tested and stood up to it well, while in the occasional County raids, the forwards were dangerous. Brett gave away a rather unnecessary corner and from it, Rodgers, the player-coach, headed what proved to be the winning goal. As the game wore on to half-time, County steadied up and Aird and Cowie were prominent. With the assistance of the wind and rain in the second half, the County applied the bulk of the pressure. Aird was always enterprising and, ably assisted by Cowie and Mackenzie, he gave the Clach defence a difficult time, but the elusive goal would not come and although County pressed to the last kick, they had to admit defeat. |
