| Match Report | Report from the North Star. Forres Mechanics 4 Ross County 2 The County lost two League points at Forres on Saturday. A good game was witnessed. It seems a pity that the County could not retain their two-goal lead, which they attained within fifteen minutes through R. Macleod. Macleod's first goal was helped into the net by a Forres back, while the second point accrued from a well-placed drive. County displayed remarkable combination to start off with, but the heavy ground and lack of training told on them, and their stranglehold on the Forres attack gradually slackened and the defence was hard put to it to hold their own. Muirden, the schoolboy goalkeeper of the County, was severely tested and acquitted himself with coolness and ability. Before half-time, Shanks and Fraser scored for Forres, making the score two-all at half-time. In the second half, Forres had the bulk of exchanges, although clever raids were engineered by the County forwards, especially the left wing, and it was only good goalkeeping which prevented the County adding to their score. Muirden was defying all kinds of shots, and even a penalty failed to beat him. However, the inevitable happened. Marshall got away on the Forres left and swung the ball across to Mackenzie, who had an easy task to tip the ball past the helpless Muirden. Play now became confined to the Ross-shire goal area. Muirden and his backs defended heroically, but Forres again got the ball past the goalkeeper, Shanks beating the schoolboy with a finely taken drive. The Ross County team, when they took the field, had a strange look. There were no less than four new players in the side: Muirden (goal), Sutherland (right-half), Maclennan (centre-half), and W. Mackenzie (outside-left). All were a decided success, although Maclennan lacked training. |
