| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Huntly 3 Ross County 3 These clubs met at Huntly on Saturday under the auspices of the Highland League. Ross County kicked off in dull but fine weather, and through their forceful tactics were early at Paul's end, where Bowie centered for Munro to shoot into the keeper’s hands. Huntly took up the pressure, and within ten minutes W. Munro netted in a melee in the County’s goalmouth. In the lead, Huntly played sprightly football, the forwards keeping the ball moving from wing to wing. Midfield play continued for a spell, neither keeper being seriously tested. Kerr got through to equalize with a well-taken goal after 25 minutes of play. On equal terms, both teams strove hard for the lead. At the County’s end, Donald hit the post. At the other end, Bowie gave the County the lead close to half-time. Huntly forced the pace on resuming, but the visitors put up a resolute defense. Donald, who was playing well at center, had a good try which went past. Huntly were now exerting tremendous pressure; Donald lost a glorious chance by waiting too long, and a moment later Nicol drove wildly past. Ewen, who had played poorly so far, made amends by scoring with a grounder. Huntly deserved the point. For a few minutes following this, the Ross County goal bore a charmed life, the ball continually bobbing about the goalmouth. Much against the run of play, the visitors went ahead through Kerr. The visiting forwards were always dangerous when they got away. W. Munro had hard lines with a header. Subsequent play was all Huntly's, but they could not score. Near the end, however, Young scored a splendid equalizing goal. |
