Ross County 4 Nairn County 1

Ross County easily secured a victory over Nairn County at Victoria Park on Saturday in the Inverness Cup tie. The pitch was against a good display of football, but on occasion, both teams exhibited some clever work. The home eleven did not take long to settle, and an early goal by Hart, set up by Grant, gave them an advantage. Nairn's retaliation came quickly, and Taylor should have beaten Brett from close in, but the goalkeeper brought off a confident save. Chances were missed by both sides, the Ross-shire players being the bigger sinners. They bunched too much together and their closing game brought no reward. Munro, the younger Invergordon player who was included in the home team for the first time, early proved himself a footballer, his handling and placing of the ball being particularly attractive. Munro fouled Taylor and from the spot kick, Newlands failed to score, the ball skimming the upright and rebounding into play for Trail to clear. Play brightened up and Nairn were getting more of the ball, both their wings being particularly clever in making ground. Glass, on the right, on two occasions should have beaten Brett, but although shooting a hard, dangerous ball, he could not get it past the wily Brett. Sutherland, the Ross-shire left winger, also gave a sparkling display and was the most dangerous forward. A second goal came to Ross-shire, Grant being the marksman with a fast low shot which gave Leith no chance. Shortly after, Leith was brilliant when he ran a hard shot from Sutherland out to the side with his fingers, while another shot from Mackay brought out Leith's fine goalkeeping qualities. Nearing the close of the half, Ross County pressed incessantly but could not get through. Nairn forced two corners, but with no result. Glass was the only Nairn forward to give Brett any work. Immediately on resumption after the interval, Ross County got a third goal, Mackay notching the point. Rain and wind both interfered with the play, but Ross County played even better into the teeth of the elements than they had done in the first half. Hart was at a terrific pace and plied his men with plenty of the ball. Leith was constantly in action and with two fast backs in front of him held out many raids. In breakaways, Nairn were always dangerous, and Taylor had his due reward when he beat Brett from close range. This infused new life into the Nairn attack and Glass was unlucky to have the ball run away from him after a sparkling upfield run. Sutherland was constantly worrying the Nairn defence, and a point-blank shot of his was smartly cleared by Leith. The home team were now clearly dominant and Nairn rarely got past Munro and Mackenzie, who displayed fine talent in covering up for each other. Grant was an intriguing inside player and from him came the fourth goal after a clever piece of play in which Hart and Sutherland took part. This ended the scoring and Nairn have to thank their goalkeeper for keeping the score down. Leith let four balls past him, but they were of the unsaveable order, while he prevented a score of other shots from registering which with a less brilliant keeper would have counted.
