Nairn County 3 Ross County 2

Ross County travelled to Nairn on Saturday and played their second leg in the first round of the Inverness Cup. This competition is decided on the home and home principle. At Dingwall, earlier in the season, Ross County won by four goals to one, and despite being beaten at Nairn by three goals to two, go forward to the next round on the aggregate of goals. Ross-shire were at full strength on Saturday, but they met Nairn on top form and against two capable backs and a sound goalkeeper, could make little impression, while the Nairn forwards were always dangerous and had Munro and Mackenzie fully stretched throughout the game. The Nairn pitch is narrow and this greatly hampered the visitors, whose passes from and to the wings were invariably too strong, while the inside forwards were inclined to get bunched up with the half-backs and wingers, consequently allowing the Nairn defence to rob them of the ball. Morrison, the young Nairn centre forward who has caused quite a stir recently by his goal scoring, had two of his side’s goals, the veteran Taylor securing the other. Aird was the Ross County marksman. All over it was a hard and fast game, played on equal terms. Both goalkeepers distinguished themselves, while the Ross-shire half-backs were a shade better than their opposing numbers.
