| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Ross County 5 Huntly 2 Those who stayed away from the Ross County v. Huntly match in Victoria Park, Dingwall, on Saturday missed an exciting game. The weather was menacing, but it proved not uncomfortable. Ross County were experimenting with "youngsters" and a poor game was forecast; youth was served, however, and play, if not always reaching a high standard, was interesting. Ross County won by 5 goals to 2, mainly through tactical superiority and fine strategic conception. The Ross County defence was not at full strength from goal to half-back, and the defence, conscious of possible weaknesses forward owing to the presence of "try-outs," played an offensive game throughout with the best results. The two goals scored against Ross County is a meagre penalty to have paid. Probably had John Hart planned and played a persistent offensive and been splendidly supported, the result might have been different, for Huntly had a capable forward line that did not get going because of the strain thrown on their defence. The game opened briskly enough with the County readily striking a good rhythm. Galbraith in the County goal was shaky, and Urquhart cleared a certain goal by kicking clear off the goal line. Mackay opened the County account with a beautiful high drive which had Singer completely beaten. A doubtful penalty gave Huntly the equaliser, Sey converting. Shortly after, Hart converted a penalty to give the County a 2-1 lead at half-time. With the advantage of the wind, the County attack grew more persistent; Cameron got away on his own and his parting shot was judiciously played out of Singer's reach. Then Kerr, who was a hard trier throughout, had his reward. He slipped through between the backs and at the second time of asking, beat Singer. Huntly retaliated and Sey got a second goal, while Kerr, with his head, connected cleanly to score his side's fifth point. This was all the scoring, the ultimate result being Ross County 5, Huntly 2. |
