| Comments | Match Report Report by Mike Tremlett from the Press & Journal. Ross County 1 Dundee 1 Four Tennents Scottish Cup winners' medals give Ross County manager Neale Cooper the right to talk with some authority on subject of the cup and yesterday he fired a warning in Dundee's direction. Handed an away quarter-final against Motherwell or Rangers in Saturday night's draw, if his side finishes the job they started in Dingwall, Cooper fancies his side's chances of making the last eight at Dens Park tomorrow night. He said: "We matched Dundee in every department at Victoria Park and we have nothing to fear from the replay at Dens. Before Saturday's game, I tried to dispel the fear factor and make the players understand that we were not just there to make up the numbers, because we have the quality of player to win ties like these. "And I couldn't have asked for more from our lads after the commitment they showed against Brechin and Airdrie. I thought we were very unlucky not to get a second goal when Derek Adams got through after we'd gone ahead." With dangermen James Grady and Ian Anderson tied down by Dave Mackay and Kenny Gilbert and Mark Haro on top of the threat posed by Steve McCormick, County picked up where they left off against Airdrie 11 days earlier. When Derek Adams lifted a glorious 22-yard angled chip over Dard Blues keeper Robbie Douglas--Adams' 19th goal of the season and his in the competition--in the 54th minute, it was no more than Cooper's gutsy side deserved. In fact, County looked so composed that John McGlashan's 63rd-minute header, laid on by Darius Adamczuk's cross, was all that prevented Dundee boss Jocky Scott's worst nightmare--a cup exit his first match in charge--coming true. He said: "I wasn't a bit surprised by Ross County after going to Dingwall to see them on Tuesday night, although they didn't put the same effort in against East Stirling as they did against us. "I told our players that County were a well-organised team who get the ball down and attempts to play good football and that's exactly what they did against us. "Sides from the lower divisions find more energy and enthusiasm in cup ties and until a side from a higher division gets two or three goals clear and knocks that enthusiasm out of them, they keep going." And, if the Dundee boss plans to claim a quarter-final place and a trip to Fir Park or Ibrox, he has just two days to bring about an immediate improvement, or Cooper's Counyu could march on into the last eight. |
