Caledonian 4 Ross County 3
Caley survived a storming finish by County to progress to the second round of the Tennents Highland League Cup.
Alan Smart failed a fitness test for the Blues, who sprung a surprise by fielding Alan Hercher in the striker's role. And the move paid off when he netted twice in the first half.
Caley grabbed the initiative from the first whistle and Robertson came close to giving them the lead with an angled drive that was deflected for a corner after 10 minutes.
The opener, which followed five minutes later, was down to the class of Baltacha.
The Ukrainian World Cup star gained possession and took on the opposition single-handedly before accepting a return pass from Christie and crossing for HERCHER to fire home from close range.
Within minutes County were back in the game and McRitchie had two good saves from Grant within the space of a minute before DUFF levelled the scores after 39 minutes.
But just two minutes later HERCHER soared above the opposing defence to head home from Robertson's corner.
A huge clearance from Baltacha set up Caley's third just before the break. Hutchison hesitated in going for the ball and NOBLE thumped it home in the ensuing scramble.
Caley went further ahead 15 minutes into the second half. Robertson sprinted down the left and crossed by LISLE to volley into the bottom corner.
County immediately swept upfield and, for the first time in the game, the Caley defence looked static as DUFF raced in to hammer home a cross from Wilson.
It was virtually all County in the final 20 minutes and Grant and Lemmon both came close before GRANT headed in.
