| Comments | Match Report Report by Mike Tremlett for the Press & Journal. Ross County 1 Elgin City 3 Elgin City, who will now take a two-week break from Press and Journal Highland League action, moved to within three points of table-toppers Huntly with a comfortable 3-1 win over lacklustre Ross County in Dingwall last night. If player-boss John Teasdale was looking for a good performance to exorcise the uncomfortable memory of Saturday's Qualifying Cup disaster at Banff, that was exactly what he got. City took 40 minutes to go ahead through skipper Graeme Cameron and led 3-0 after 70 minutes with goals added by Sammy Leonce and manager Teasdale. The injury-hit home side pulled one back through Brian Grant in 72 minutes. City almost went ahead after five minutes when Mike Teasdale powered on a Russell Mackay lay-off and his powerful right foot shot bounced back off the post with County keeper Hutcheson well beaten. City went ahead five minutes before the break when County keeper Hutcheson came for a corner, failed to make contact and the ball broke to CAMERON, who bulleted home a close-rangers header. Early in the second half, County missed a great chance to get back into the game. Somerville found space on the right and drove a great ball across the six-yard line but neither Grant nor Alan Duff could apply the crucial finishing touch. County were made to pay for that missed chance on the hour. City boss John Teasdale flighted in an inch-perfect corner to LEONCE, who climbed unchallenged to bullet a header home. City wrapped up the points midway through the second half when John TEASDALE fastened on to a fine through ball from Mackay and gave Hutcheson no chance with a rifled 20-yard shot. County, however, refused to lie down and pulled one back within three minutes, Bellshaw picked out GRANT and his turn left him with an opening to stick the ball wide of Elgin keeper Craig Hinchcliffe. |
