| Comments | Match Report Report by Mike Tremlett for the Press & Journal. Ross County 1 Fort William 0 Ross County laboured to a frustratingly narrow 1-0 win over Fort William at Victoria Park last night where the only grace was the three points the result garnered for the Dingwall club. The game ought to have been over as a contest by half time with slick County dominating all of the key areas only to let all but one of a handful of well-crafted chances go begging. The only goal of the game came after 11 minutes when DUFF climbed above the Fort William defence to glance a Robbie Williamson free kick in off the far post. From then on things went steadily downhill for County who ought to have been 3-0 up and cruising by the time the half time whistled blew. Instead, former Don Andy McLeod side footed a great chance over the bar in 20 minutes, Gordon Connolly--completely in the clear on the half hour--hit a tame 12-yard shot straight at the Fort keeper, and Chris Somerville drove an angled drive inches over the bar. After half time, the chances dried up completely, a Connolly shot, which Macpherson grabbed without too much trouble, proved to be the only real opening County managed to create in a frustrating period. In the closing minutes, Fort, who had worked hard all night and played good football of their own up to the edge of the County 18-yard box, almost snatched a point, Hutcheson in the County goal getting down smartly to grab a Joe Smart shot. |
