| Comments | Match Report Report by Bill McAllister for the Press & Journal. Ross County 1 Inverness Clachnacuddin 1 Jamie MacPherson celebrated the first anniversary of his transfer from Ross County with an outstanding individual performance which seemed to have won the game for Clach until County saved a point with a late penalty. The Dingwall men had battled bravely, though their flair and touch was seldom in evidence, but the visitors created more chances, hitting the woodwork twice, and can feel unfortunate not to win. Referee Hadden booked seven players--four of them Clach men--but though fiercely contested at cup tie pace, it was never a dirty game. Billy Ferries ended his personal injury nightmare by starting a competitive match for the first time since October, 1992, and he figured in most of County's better moves. Clach started strongly and McCulloch, whose strong running took the eye, rattled the bar from close range. The visitors' long-ball tactics were catching County flat-footed and they continued to look the more likely side. A MacPherson free kick on the half-hour mark produced a superb acrobatic save from Hutchison, who again excelled by somehow getting to a Seaton header off Richardson's cross. Clach took the lead in 63 minutes when MACPHERSON neatly side-stepped his man and lashed home a beautiful angled drive from the edge of the box. Connelly shot against the keeper's legs as County fought to save the day. They got the bit of luck they needed in 81 minutes when Bennett was judged to have impeded Connelly and ex-Don Andy MACLEOD sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot. In a hectic finish, Clach Keeper Stuart had a great save at Connolly's feet and the MacPherson missed by inches with two fine efforts. In the final minute a Richardson header rebounded off the bar to County's relief. Those booked were Connelly, A. MacLeod and S. MacLeod of County, and Douglas, Benson, Hardie and Bennett for the visitors. |
